You can improve your ramen by mixing an egg yolk with the ramen soup.
Can you believe it? It works really well.
Do you want to know why an egg yolk can improve your ramen?
Keep reading and you will find out...
1. Your ramen has a lot of potential
The kitchen cupboard that my mom used to store different kinds of instant noodles was a treasure trove for me.
I used to run some experiments using them after class when I was in elementary school.
Thinking back, that is probably the reason why I like to cook and I still love ramen so much...
2. An egg yolk emulsifies your ramen soup
Emulsifying means combining two different liquids together, and these liquids don’t ordinarily mix.
In our case, oil and water.
You want to emulsify ramen soup and oil.
Doing so, you will not feel the oiliness of the soup
But the flavor of the oil stands out.
The soup feels a lot milder.
Good ramen soup is emulsified by boiling the broth for a long time.
But you can’t afford doing it as a homecook.
Good news:
Mixing an egg yolk with ramen soup can do the job.
Because the egg yolk goes between the oil and the water in the ramen soup.
And emulsifying happens.
3. Here is how to do it...
1 Boil noodles in a pot.
2 Boil 450ml(2cups) of water using a kettle or a different pot.
3 Separate the egg yolk from the egg white.
4 Mix 50ml of the hot water, the soup packet, and an egg yolk in a noodle bowl.
5 Add the rest of the hot water with 4.
6 Put the noodles in the bowl.
Done!
*The amount of water depends on the instant noodles.Read the instructions on the package.
Mixing a small amount of hot water first prevents the egg yolk from being cooked.
Want to know how to boil ramen noodles better?
Try these ways…
4. Put instant noodles into hot water that has completely come to a boil
There is a huge difference between cooking instant noodles in warm water for 3 minutes and cooking instant noodles in boiling hot water for 3 minutes.
Cooking in boiling hot water cooks the noodles evenly, and gives your noodles a nice texture and chewiness.
5. Cook noodles in a lot of hot water
Using a lot of hot water to boil your noodles will prevent a drop in the water temperature.
Doing this will prevent your noodles from getting sticky because of the starch from the noodles.
6. Do not touch your noodles while you are boiling them
You should not touch, mix, or poke at your noodles for at least the first 1 minute during boiling.
If you touch it, the surface of the water will break and the noodles will absorb too much water.
The noodles won't become evenly cooked.
7. Follow the boiling time
You need to set a timer for the boiling time.
There is a right amount of time to cook each instant noodle.
The best boiling time is always what the brands recommend (ex. the time listed on the cooking instructions).
Another tip?
How about this…
8. Pan-fry pepper and season your ramen with it
When you compare home-cook ramen to store-made ramen,
The taste that is missing is bitterness.
You might think bitterness is not important to your ramen.
But adding a little bit of bitterness of pan-fried pepper,
Makes you taste a deeper sense of umami.

Due to Covid, a lot of good ramen restaurants have closed
It makes me feel very angry.
I used to eat ramen out frequently,
But in this situation,
Ramen shops have started to shorten the hours, limit the number of customers, or even closed their shops.
It has affected the industry so much.
I am afraid good ramen will be gone
But meanwhile, you still can enjoy ramen in the comfort of your own home.
Here are some of my recommendations for ramen lovers.
1. Sapporo Ichiban Shio Flavor
MY THOUGHTS OVERALL ★★★★☆
In truth, Sapporo Ichiban delivers a good quality shio ramen experience.
Actually, it is very difficult to find good shio ramen.
Do you know why?
Because it is very difficult to make it since it is very simple.
There are many good shoyu and miso flavored instant noodles out there.
But I feel specifically, the shio flavor market is monopolized by Sapporo Ichiban.
Think about this for a moment having good shio ramen for your dinner with your favorite ramen toppings.
Now, you want some, don’t you?
2. Nissin Raoh Shoyu Flavor
MY THOUGHTS OVERALL ★★★★★
It is nearly impossible to make restaurant quality noodles at home without the right tools and equipment.
How can you beat that?
Using Raoh’s shoyu flavour will help you achieve this easily. This is top-notch ramen hands down!
One pinnacle of instant noodles is the soy sauce flavor. It is expensive compared to regular ones but let me tell you, it deserves every single penny.
In a nutshell, I loved every bit of it.
...And I am sure you will too.
3. The problem here is that no toppings come with these packets.
Here are some topping options and recipes for you.

"I am from Ibaraki, Japan.
Ramen is great! It can bring you a sense of happiness and satisfaction that no other food can. I have been eating ramen for 30 years.
If there is no ramen, my life would be miserable.
Ten years ago, I worked as an office worker. The job was really stressful - excessive working hours, low wages, unpaid overtime work, and constantly being yelled at by my boss.
I was new and alone, no girlfriend, no friends, and felt very lonely.
My only oasis was the ramen shop near the office. For me, the ramen chef there was literally an angel. I saw a halo on his head. (No joke)
Tonkotsu shoyu ramen was my all-time favorite. He made ramen with broth chock-full of umami flavor, nice chewy handmade noodles, and tender chashu.
My greatest dream is connect people with ramen through my blog. I want to share a lot of interesting and funny stories and ramen trivia with you.
Knowing more about ramen can help you appreciate your ramen and make it taste extra delicious."
